Daniel Pink

His articles on business and technology appear in many publications, including the New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Wired, and The Sunday Telegraph. Dan has provided analysis of business trends on CNN, CNBC, ABC, NPR, and other networks in the U.S. and abroad. And he lectures to corporations, associations, and universities around the world on economic transformation and the new workplace.
In 2011, Thinkers50 ranked him one of the 50 most influential business thinkers in the world.
A free agent himself, Dan held his last real job in the White House, where he served from 1995 to 1997 as chief speechwriter to Vice President Al Gore. He also worked as an aide to U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich and in other positions in politics and government.
He received a BA from Northwestern University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a JD from Yale Law School. He has also received honorary degrees from the Ringling College of Art and Design (2011) and Westfield State University (2010).

Eric Mazur is the Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University and Area Dean of Applied Physics. An internationally recognized scientist and researcher, he leads a vigorous research program in optical physics and supervises one of the the largest research groups in the Physics Department at Harvard University.
After obtaining a Ph.D. degree in experimental physics at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in 1981, Dr. Mazur came to Harvard University in 1982. In 1984 he joined the faculty and obtained tenure six years later. Dr. Mazur has made important contributions to spectroscopy, light scattering, the interaction of ultrashort laser pulses with materials, and nanophotonics.

Dr. Susan Gendron served as the Maine Commissioner of Education until May 2010 when she assumed the role of Policy Coordinator for the SMARTER Balance Assessment Consortium. In 2010 she was named a Senior Fellow for ICLE. Dr. Gendron’s career in education spans 38 years serving as a teacher, school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. In her roles she has encouraged school systems to move to a learner-centered system of standards-based education; is an advocate for graduating all students ready for college, career and citizenship; and has led the reorganization effort of Maine’s school systems. During her tenure, Maine joined with three other states to administer a common assessment for reading and mathematics. She has served as President of the Council of Chief State School Officers Board, as Chair of the Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast and Islands Board, and as trustee of the University of Maine System. Dr. Gendron has received many honors, including the State Education Technology Directors Association–2008 Pushing the Envelope Award and the Jobs for America’s Graduates–2009 National Education Leadership Award.

Joellen Killion is the Deputy Executive Director for Learning Forward. Killion focuses on improving professional learning for all educators. Her most recent books include Assessing Impact: Evaluating Staff Development, Assessing Impact: Evaluating Staff Development: A Trainer's Manual (co-authored with Linda Munger and Pat Roy), Collaborative Professional Learning Teams in School and Beyond: A Tool Kit for New Jersey Educators, and Taking the Lead: New Roles for Teacher and School-based Coaches (co-authored with Cindy Harrison); The Learning Educator: A New Era in Professional Learning (co-authored with Stephanie Hirsh); and Becoming a Learning School (with Patricia Roy). At Learning Forward, she has led a number of initiatives related to examining the link between professional development and student learning. She has extensive experience in professional development planning, design, implementation, and evaluation both at the school and system level.

Alan November is an international leader in education technology. He began his career as an oceanography teacher and dorm counselor at an island reform school for boys in Boston Harbor. While Alan was a computer science teacher in Lexington, MA, he was probably the first teacher in the world to have a student project on line in 1984, a database for the handicapped. He has been director of an alternative high school, computer coordinator, technology consultant and university lecturer. He has helped schools, governments and industry leaders improve the quality of education through technology.

Linda Darling-Hammond is Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education at Stanford University where she launched the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education and the School Redesign Network and served as faculty sponsor for the Stanford Teacher Education Program. She is a former president of the American Educational Research Association and member of the National Academy of Education. Her research, teaching, and policy work focus on issues of school restructuring, teacher quality and educational equity.
From 1994-2001, she served as executive director of the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future, a blue-ribbon panel whose 1996 report, What Matters Most: Teaching for America’s Future led to sweeping policy changes affecting teaching and teacher education. She recently served as the leader of President Barack Obama’s education policy transition team.

Born in El Paso, Texas on March 26, 1930, Sandra Day O’Connor was elected to two terms in the Arizona state senate. In 1981 Ronald Reagan nominated her as a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and she received unanimous Senate approval. Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. As a justice, O’Connor was as a key swing vote in many important cases, including the upholding of Roe V. Wade. She was considered a moderate conservative and retired in 2006 after serving 24 years.
